Sydney Lunar Markets

Address: Pyrmont Bay Park, Pyrmont (Sydney, Australia)

Description: The Sydney Lunar Markets were originally featured in TimeOut Magazine with some excellent reviews. Here is what they had to say: "Pyrmont’s popular Lunar Markets are back for 11 nights to celebrate the Year of the Rooster. Create your own Lunar New Year feast with different dishes from the 20-plus stallholders at the nightly markets in Pyrmont Bay Park. The free pop-up food festival takes place over 11 nights during the Sydney Chinese New Year Festival and there are usually stalls from Australia’s top Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Thai restaurants, including Bao Stop, POKLOL, Fat Noodle and the Century. There’s free entertainment every night at the Lunar Markets, which includes bars and plenty of plastic chairs and tables under a canopy of lanterns."

Not only that, but the Sydney Lunar Markets were also again featured in the well respected GoodFoodGuide online publications. James Meehan was one of the stall holders who was interviewed, and this is what the GoodFoodGuide reporter had to say about the his involvement at the event: James Meehanis on a mission. He wants everyone to eat more Filipino food. He and his wife Regina are the founders of Hoy Pinoy (that's "hey Filipino" to you), a Melbourne-based street vendor specialising in skewered meats cooked over charcoal (mangrove and branch for a consistent slow burn), Filipino style.

A little bit more about the Sydney Lunar Markets project - James Meehan was quoted as saying: "There's not a lot of Filipino food in Australia," says Meehan, who launched Hoy Pinoy at the Victoria Markets in August 2013. But the pair are here to change all that, bringing their flavour to Sydney's inaugural Lunar Markets, kicking off Thursday evening in Pyrmont Bay Park. Out of 20 stalls, they'll be the only one serving Filipino food.
